Kim George Smith

d. March 7, 2018

Kim George Smith, 63, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at his home from natural causes. Kim was born in Pocatello, Idaho on October 16, 1954 to Kay Lamar Smith and Ora Mangum. He was the youngest of five children. He was raised in Pocatello, attending Whittier Elementary and Franklin Junior High while working at his parents drive-in, the Tastee Treet, trying to raise money for his first go-kart. As a go-kart owner, Kims passion for racing was born. While attending Pocatello High School, Kim and his brother, Rodney, began racing in the "J" class of the Pocatello Super Speedway then moving into the super stock class. In 1973, Kim graduated from Pocatello High School. From 1974 to 1976, Kim served a mission for the LDS church in the Philippines-Manila Mission. On June 3, 1976 Kim married Nannette Toone in the Logan Utah Temple. Together they had three children. Kim was a devoted family man that worked very hard to instill a sense of family and work ethic and his children. As a jack-of-all trades, Kim worked with his brother, Rodney, stitching homes. He then worked at the Union Pacific Railroad. Kim than began working with his brother, Val, as an apprentice earning his electrical license. In 1986, Kim began his career at Frenchs in Shelley, Idaho. He continued his work there while the company changed to Pillsbury then finally to Basic American Foods. In 2012, after 26 years of service, Kim retired. While working at BAF, Kim perfected his skills as an electrician, welder, mechanic, and fabricator; while never missing an opportunity to prank a co-worker. As his children grew, Kim enjoyed spending as much time with them in the outdoors as possible; ATVing, camping, and fishing. He even managed to make hauling firewood fun! Kim always did his best to be present for his childrens activities from band competitions to rodeos. He always tried to be there. Kim was a very quiet, humble man. He enjoyed being a life-long member of the LDS 12th ward. Even in his declining health, Kim and Nann attended the temple as often as possible where he found peace and contentment. Kim is survived by his wife, Nann; children, Jeremiah of Phoenix, Joshua (Nicole) of Chubbuck, and Angela (DurRand) Pennington of new Plymouth, Idaho; along with seven grandchildren, Cherish, Rebekah, Talon, Piper, Kimbree, Teigan and Avery. He is preceded in death by his father, Kay Smith; brother, Rodney Smith; sister, Arleen Smith; daughter-in-law, Nicole Smith; granddaughter, Hailey Pennington; his mother-in-law, Bonnie Toone; and father-in-law, Byron Toone. A viewing will be held Tuesday, March 13 from 6-8 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, ID. Services will be Wednesday, March 14 at 11 am at the LDS Chapel, 2271 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello, ID 83201 (corner of 4 th & Fredregill Rd.) with a viewing for one hour prior.
