Kevin Smith

d. August 12, 1958

Kevin Mark Smith He was born in St. Louis Park Minnesota on August 12, 1958 to James and Rose Ann Smith. Due to an automobile accident Kevin ascended into Heaven on October 14, 2012 to join the Lord. Kevin is survived by his wife, of 34 years, Lisa, three daughters Shannon (Stanley) McHawes, Tonya Smith and Stephenie Smith, and his elder brother Rick whom he was very close to. In addition, Kevin is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Darious, Maria, Angelina, Jayden, Layne, Payton and Dane. Kevin adored his grandkids and was never too busy to spend time with them. He and the kids loved to pull pranks on each other, and all that laughter usually turned into sharing Grandpa's chair with him. No Grandchild was ever too old for sitting on Grandpa's lap. They waited for fall every year. As the apples fell from the trees, it was on! Apple baseball was Kevin and the kid's favorite "sport". Kevin loved the outdoors. He enjoyed all aspects of them from scenery to hunting. He especially loved sharing his knowledge and love of the outdoors with family and friends. Be it hiking, fishing, or hunting, Kevin had great knowledge of how to be successful at it (without getting lost!). Kevin got to take his grandson Darious on his first hunting trip the day before he passed away. He had been looking forward to taking all the grandkids that wanted to go, but that was not to be. As a neighbor and friend Kevin was always there to lend a helping hand. He had old-fashioned values and believed that people should be there for each other. Kevin and Lisa both felt blessed when they moved into a neighborhood many years ago that felt like they were stepping back in time. The people on Briscoe Road are more like family than neighbors. We have all had tragedies over the years. Kevin let very few people into his heart. For those lucky few, they will all share memories of a special man that they were blessed to know and love. He taught his children many things, but most important of these was how to love your family, healing heartache with humor. His laugh was infectious and few could resist laughing with him. That laugh will be greatly missed by all. His marriage to his wife Lisa was something to strive for. The way they pulled through the good times and the bad showed the love they felt for each other. You rarely saw one without the other and Lisa is not whole without him. They spent the greatest years of their lives together, always growing and holding each other up. However, it was their differences that came together to make them so successful. On August 12, 2002 Kevin got a very special birthday gift, his granddaughter Angelina. He was blessed to share ten birthdays with her, and for that she is very grateful. She always said that she was his present, and she was one of the best. Kevin's youngest daughter Stephenie is most like her dad in personality and heart. They shared many of the same likes and dislikes and spent a great deal of time together, even as she grew into an adult. Her sense of humor reflects his (yikes!). Tonya, his middle daughter, carries his laid-back youthful attributes. Shannon, his eldest, has the part of his personality that made him mysterious. He will always have the sparks of life that carry on through his kids, grandkids, and wife. Kevin was loved and we will all miss him terribly. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at Gate City Christian Church, 202 W. Siphon Rd.
