Our beloved husband, father, and "papa," Kenneth S Jones, 83, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024. He was born on June 18, 1940, to Lamar Jones and Marjory Shiner, in Castle Dale, Utah. He married Bobbie Anderson on November 2, 1963, in Pocatello, Idaho.
Ken served his country in the United States Airforce. His duty stations where Roswell New Mexico, and Elmendorf Airforce base in Alaska. He served on the DEW line, the early warning system in the Aleutian Island chain. While serving there he earned airman of month.
Ken worked as a conductor for Union Pacific Railroad and Amtrak for 40 years, working throughout the northwest of the United States. He was active in the labor union and was President of the J.O.T., attending conventions in Sun Valley, Idaho.
To his hunting party, he was known as Dead-Eye Jones. He infamously put down 17 elk on the first shot in the Borah Mountains. Being an avid outdoorsman, he looked forward to salmon fishing on the Oregon coast every August, as well as hunting down ancient sturgeon at the mouth of the Colombia River.
Ken loved golfing and ventured across the States seeking out new courses. He golfed from Arizona, Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, over several winters spent in Florida, Alabama, and California, and all the courses throughout the state of Idaho. One of his greatest achievements was a hole in one at the Riverside Golf Club.
While he loved hunting, fishing, snow skiing, boating, water skiing, and golfing, perhaps his biggest passion of all was river rafting. He was a master oarsman that knew how to read the rapids and loved snaking the wild adventures along the Snake and Salmon Rivers with family and friends.
Maybe the truest testament of Ken's compassion was his devotion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served as a temple ordinance worker for 10 years. Although they were wed in 1963, Ken and his beloved wife, Bobbie, tied their own union at the temple in Idaho Falls on September 11, 1999. They continued to go to the temple each year thereafter and spent their honeymoon visiting the sites of Nauvoo, enriching themselves even further in their faith.
Ken's entire life revolved around his family, and he will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Ken is survived by his wife, Bobbie Jones; sons, James (Teri) Jones, Garry (Nancy) Ames, and Mark Ames; daughter, Kelli Kae Ames; grandchildren, Nathan Jones, Kyle Brent (Kacie) Jones, Breanna Jones, Aaron and Misti, Beau and Sierra, Anthony (Elle) Ames, David (Rachel) Bloxham, Chris Bloxham, and Amie (Josh) Naylor; great grandchildren, Kayson, Gavin, Julian, Marlowe, Brynlee, Charles, Emmaline, Averie, Aria, Elysia, Ryder, Adelynn, Nick, Rachel, Robyn Lase (James Ryan), and Charlie; sisters, Pat Ellison of Hopper, UT, Judy Murdock of Roy, UT, Kelly Peters of South Weber, UT, and their families.
