POCATELLO-TSGT Kenneth K. Newsom, Beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 5th, 2010 while visiting family in Darlington, Idaho.
Kenneth was born on July 25th, 1932 in Biscuit, Kentucky to Earnest and Roxie Newsom and was the fourth of seven children. In 1936, Kenneth moved to Pocatello, Idaho where he became a lifelong resident. He attended Pocatello High School and joined the United States Air Force at age 17. During his military career, he was stationed at multiple locations around the world including England, Korea, and a tour in Vietnam. He was trained as an aircraft engine mechanic and later became an instructor. He retired from the Air Force in 1971 and attended Idaho State University where he studied diesel engines. He eventually was hired by B.E. and later went on to work for Great Western Malting Company where he retired after 20 years of faithful service.
Kenneth had a passion for music, especially Bluegrass and Gospel Bluegrass and was quite the mandolin player in his younger days. Also an avid outdoorsman, he often took his family on camping trips on the Little Lost River near Howe, Idaho, were he loved to hunt, fish, and hike. He could often be seen walking the creek banks looking for arrowheads or that perfect fishing hole.
On August 6th, 1971, Kenneth married the love of his life, Frances L. Knott and was blessed with a daughter, Cynthia Christine Newsom and a son, David S. Newsom. He was also blessed with four children from a previous marriage; MaryEllen Newsom, Kenney ‘Buck' Layton Newsom, Curtis Eugene Newsom, and Dallas Lee Newsom.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his mother and father, three brothers; Douglas C. Newsom, Teddy Newsom, and Robert G. Newsom, and one sister; Darlene Schuck, a son; Kenney ‘Buck' Newsom, and a granddaughter; Sarah EmilyAnn Newsom.
He is survived by his wife, Frances L. Newsom, sons; Curtis Newsom, Dallas Newsom, and David S. Newsom, daughters; Cynthia Christine Davis and MaryEllen Richards as well as nine grandchildren, one brother; Walter G. Newsom and one sister; Dorothy Cook.
Kenneth was a kind, generous and humble man and was loved by all who knew him. He will surely be missed by everyone who knew, worked with, or served with him and especially his family.
