Kay Richards Davies passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, holding his sweetheart's hand, on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 in Pocatello, ID. Kay was born on February 10, 1934 in Iona, ID to parents, Jonathan & Maggie Richards Davies. He was the seventh child born of this union, with two younger sisters joining the family after him.
When Kay was 14, his father died of cancer, leaving him to help his mother with his two younger sisters. The family moved to Pocatello, where Kay found employment with Union Pacific RR beginning in 1948. He worked first as a coach cleaner, then as a carman for 48 years, retiring in 1996. Kay was also a member of the Idaho National Guard.
Kay met his bride of 63 years, Juanita Sexton Davies, where she worked with his cousin, Carlene, at the Crest Theater. They were married on June 18, 1955. They were the parents of three children, Sandra, born June 1956, Tim, born December 1957 and Penny born August 1963.
It was his personality and his sense of humor that attracted Juanita to Kay. He loved the Green Bay Packers, being an avid fan from the beginning of the franchise, golf, bowling, boating, yearly family camping trips to Redfish Lake, pheasant hunting with family members, gardening, square dancing and cueing dances. He also loved being a snowbird when he and Juanita would join friends in AZ for many years, after retirement. Kay also loved playing games, particularly card games, ping pong and pool. He had a very competitive nature, but most importantly, he loved to have fun. He also had a bit of a stubborn streak. There are several family stories of Kay getting frustrated during a golf game and banging his clubs on the ground or throwing his cards during a spirited card game. Kay also loved chocolate and Diet Pepsi. If you knew, Kay, you could always win his heart, with either one of these.
But mostly, Kay loved his family. "How's the family" was his mantra. It was a question he would always ask, sometimes even before a hello. As the family patriarch, he instilled a strong sense of family and valued family more than anything, as a result, our family was closer than most. He loved each of us immensely.
Kay is survived by his wife, Juanita; daughter, Sandra (Justin) Lee; son, Tim (Susan) Davies; son in law, Rick Zamora; eight grandchildren, Cass (Michelle) Davies; Tyler (Kyrie) Zamora; Devin Lee; Megan (Chris) Jacobsen; Brock Zamora; Dannon (Sean) Branigan; Hannah (Bryce) Benson; Colton (Miranda) Zamora; six great granddaughters, Olivia, Savanna, Addison, Kennedy and Elle; one great grandson, Bridger; sisters, Martha Poole; Francene (Ted) George; sister in laws, Betty Davies; Joann (Arlen) Bybee; brother in law, James (Anne) Sexton and many nieces and nephews.
