Katina Marlise Townsend

CLEWISTON, Fla. - Our beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, cousin, Katina "Tina" Townsend, died on Sunday, October 4, 2009, in Clewiston, Florida.
She was born on July 4, 1972, to Anna Lee and Dennis Townsend in Pocatello, Idaho. Tina was a member of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes (her maternal side originated from the Lemhi Band of Shoshoni of Salmon, Idaho.)
Tina attended school at Tyhee Elementary, Hawthorne Junior High, Idaho, and Sherman Indian School in Riverside, California. She also attended Glendale High School, Phoenix, Arizona, and graduated from Jefferson Senior High School, Arlington, Virginia. She attended ITT in Pembroke Pines, Florida, specializing in computer science.
She married Joel M. Frank, a member of the Seminole Tribe and they made their home in Florida. They were blessed with four children, Jean, son, daughters, twins, Esyra, Elyse, and Joelie. Joel and Tina were later divorced but she continued to live in Florida to be near to her children, whom she loved very much. She later married Clarence Avila in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He was also a member of the Seminole Tribe and this marriage ended with his death on March 18, 2007.
Tina enjoyed playing sports, especially basketball, boating, music, traveling and her favorite pastime, shopping. She was known for her participation in powwows and held many royalty titles during her younger days.
She held various jobs during her life, including being employed at the Central Office, Bureau of Indian Affairs in Washington, D.C. She was also employed by the Seminole Tribes in various departments and outside companies.
She is survived by her children; mother, Anna Lee Townsend, Chubbuck; and brothers, Vonley and Lael Brandon Brunette, Fort Hall, Zandra, Michael, Jerel, Leonard, Jordan, Triston and Kolan Brunette and families; several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins; her maternal grandmother, Annabelle Devinney, Fort Hall; and paternal grandmother, Darlene Edmo Jones, Pocatello; her favorite uncles, Darrell and Tony Shay, Fort Hall, John Paul Jones, California, Ernest Murietta, Pocatello; aunts, Judy Cruz, Leeanne Jones, Pocatello, Roberta Jones, Gibson, Penny Jones, Las Vegas, Nevada; also her uncles, Verl and Ronnie Hootchew; aunt, Eugenia Hootchew; cousins who were very close to Katina are Lisa S. Ortiz, Leslie S. St. Clair and Stephanie Kaiyou. Tina was preceded in death by her father, Dennis Townsend, grandfathers, Leslie Shay and Franklin B. Hootchew, and several aunts, uncles as well as cousins.
Tina was a very lovable and outgoing person, and had a vibrant personality. She had many friends who will miss her.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, October 10, 2009. Interment will be at the Fort Hall Episcopal Mission Cemetery, Fort Hall, Idaho.
