Kathleen "Kathy" Stone

March 7, 1944 — January 24, 2025

Pocatello

Kathleen (Durfee) Stone was born in Preston, Idaho March 7, 1944 to Vereen and Ruby Bingham. She graduated from mortality, peacefully at her home in Pocatello on January 24, 2025. She grew up on the Bingham family farm and cattle ranch in Weston, Idaho. Her childhood was filled with the excitement and bustle of cow and farm work, which she tried to ensure involved her riding a horse. Her favorite horse that she always talked about was Sadie. She graduated from West Side High School, during those years she enjoyed horse riding, playing softball, avoiding snakes and listening to Elvis Presley.

On September 9, 1967 she married Vernon Durfee in Pocatello, Idaho, they were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. They lived for a short time in town and then established their home in Tyhee on the Durfee Farm in the winter of 1967, she remained in that same home to the day of her passing. After Vern passed away in March of 2004, she married Terry Stone on June 26, 2021 in Weston, Idaho. After that she embarked on new adventures with time split between her Pocatello home, and Terry’s Syracuse, Utah home.

She worked in the office at Rowland’s Diary for over 20 years, where she developed lifelong friendships and comradery with everyone that worked there.

Throughout her life she retained her love for horses and Elvis Presley. She has crocheted an innumerable number of items ranging from her trademark “hot pads” to decorative dolls, baby blankets and king size Afghan blankets. Countless people have been the recipient of her crochet labors, given as a heartfelt gift from her. Crocheting and watching the Utah Jazz were favorite indoor pass times for her. Outdoors she was always involved in vegetable gardening, rose gardening, and picking green apples from any apple tree she could get to without fear of a snake being around. She was always excited for warm spring weather to begin, so she could be out riding her golf cart around her property.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents Vereen and Ruby Bingham, her sister Colleen Noble Haviland, and her husband Vern Durfee.

She is survived by her husband Terry Stone, her brothers Wayne Bingham in Weston, Idaho and Larry Bingham in Layton, Utah; her children Shelley and Ed Read, Sherry and Wade Flowers, Rhett and Melanie Durfee all in Pocatello; twelve grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She also has her loving step-children Scott (Carol) Stone, Chris (Kristen) Stone, Robert (Misha) Stone in Utah and Melissa (Lance) Pooler in Texas. She had great joy in being a grandmother and great-grandmother.

Kathy’s family wishes to thank and acknowledge Barrie and Jill Hunt, Ron and Marie Miller, Crystal and Jerry Carson, Russ and Joan Johnson, Shauna Taylor, Terri Ransbottom and Renee and Danny Smoot for countless hours of service, and innumerable acts of kindness on her behalf.
