Katherine Kremer

d. September 14, 2012

POCATELLO - Violetta Katherine Kremer, passed away on September 14, 2012, at a local care center. She was born on August 30, 1925, in Redondo Beach, CA, to Verle and Mabel Marks. She was the second of four daughters. She attended Whittier High School and graduated in 1944. In her youth she loved to sing and performed in a variety of school performances. She was a beautiful young woman and even modeled for department stores. While in high school she was an usherette at the Whittier movie theater. It was there she met her future husband. On May 26, 1944 she married Jack H. Kremer. Jack was larger than life. He was a pilot in the Air Force and was flying B-17's and B-29's in WWII. While Jack was in the military she moved with him to Ontario, California, Roswell, New Mexico, Alexandria and then Shreveport Louisiana. After the war the family lived in Ft. Bragg, Oxnard, LaMirada, CA, and then purchased and spent 40 years in the family home in LaHabra Heights,CA. Together they raised 3 children: Richard, Susan, and John. She loved having and raising her babies. John was diagnosed at a very young age of 13 with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and he passed away shortly after turning 15. She also lost her mother-in-law the same year. This was a difficult time for her to lose a son and mother-in-law whom she had strong bonds with. Kathie spent an extraordinary amount of time thinking about and serving others. She was very active in the PTA and both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She was a very active election volunteer and would hand count the ballots, using their home as a poll site. Cooking wasn't just a hobby for her, she would make meals for firemen on holidays and "just because". Kathie would share cupcakes for clerks at the market and hosted many receptions and baby and bridal showers. She owned a large piece of ground on a hill and was known as a drop off location for stray, injured, or lost animals. She nursed and cared for snakes, turtles, canaries, doves, cats, dogs, and a menagerie of animals. In California Kathie was a member of the LDS Whittier Stake. The calling she loved the most was nursery grandmother. She was sealed in the LA Temple to Jack in 1970. Sewing, knitting, and embroidery were some of her amazing talents. She also enjoyed china painting and many other crafts. Kathie is survived by her husband of 68 years Jack Howard Kremer of Pocatello; son Richard Howard Kremer of Vashon Island, WA; daughter Susan (Ron) Francis of Pocatello; sister Betty Jo David of La Habra, CA; sister Clair Louise Stein of Etna, CA; granddaughters Holly Rorvik, Katherine Zuercher, Melissa McCrea, and Candance Francis, great grandchildren include; Eric Hnialowarter, Nicolette, Steven, Angelina Rorvik, Katelyn and Kensington Zuercher; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, son John, and sister Verlene. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave. A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 21, 2012, also at Colonial Funeral Home, as well as one hour prior to the funeral service.
