Karl Golden Whittier beloved father and husband greeted the world on May 5, 1933, in Peterson, Utah, and gently found peace on January 21, 2019, in Pocatello, Idaho.
Karl was the youngest of nine children and the child of Raymond Madsen Whittier and Opal Hulet. His brothers and sisters preceded him in death. He was raised in Rockland, Idaho. He left Rockland to attend Brigham Young University, but after a semester of school Karl was drafted into the army to serve during the Korean conflict. Karl began working for Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance in 1957 as a Claims Examiner working up to the job of Vice President of Claims in 1974. He retired November 1992.
Throughout his life he had many hobbies and interests among them hunting, fishing, golfing, camping and traveling: Some of his favorite travels were to Bali, Israel, and summer visits to the coast - all with friends and family. He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Karl met and fell in love with Shirley Ann Berreth through friends in Rockland, Idaho. They married when Karl was drafted into the army and have remained in love and fiercely loyal to each other ever since. Together they welcomed five children; Command Sergeant Major (Ret) Charles Whittier (Karen), Vanessa Wyler (Gary), Dr. Timothy Whittier (Diann), Dr. Melissa Herzog (Steve), and Sean Whittier (Pei-I).
A public viewing will be held at Wilks Funeral Home on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 11:00am – 12:00pm.
