June Phillips

d. April 18, 2015

June Craven-Phillips passed peacefully on April 18, 2015 in Chubbuck, Idaho at the age of 84. June was born on June 16, 1930 to H.L. "Red" Craven and Bertha Tidwell-Craven in Ashton, Idaho. She attended school in Ashton and, upon her high school graduation, attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City. June married Grant Phillips of Tetonia, Idaho in 1952 in LasVegas, Nevada. They had three children: Thomas Grant, Sally Ann, and Steven Jed. All three children, as well as her husband, preceded June in her death; Tommy in 1961, Sally and Steve in 1994, and Grant in 2006. In 1987, June and Grant welcomed their first and only grandchild, Christina Michele Phillips, the daughter of their son, Steven, and his wife, Mary Bowmer-Phillips. In the final years of Junes life, Christina became Junes guardian and was at her side until her final moments. June retired early from the office of Drs. Howard and Gilbert in 1987 when Christina was born to help in her care, something that she never regretted. June always said that these years were the brightest of her life. June loved to travel, which she and her husband did often. The two of them traveled the world together and went on several cruises. Above all, Junes favorite hobby was shopping. You could regularly find June and her three sisters wandering the malls and hitting any sale in sight. The Phillips family lived on the west bench of Pocatello for several years where June found many lifelong friends in her neighbors and was very active in the Valleyview LDS Ward. June was a member and active participant in many organizations including the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. In Beta Sigma Phi, June served as chapter president of all chapters and held all other offices. She was president of the Beta Sigma Phi city council twice and also held all other offices in BSP city council. She was chairman of the Idaho State Convention in 1989. In 2000, June was named Beta Sigma Phi "Girl of the Year". June is survived by her granddaughter, Christina Phillips, and her daughter in law, Mary Bowmer-Phillips. She is preceded in death by her husband, Grant Phillips; all three of her children: Tommy, Sally, and Steve; her parents; and her three sisters. Junes family would like to thank Ridgewind Assisted Living and Encompass Home Health for their love and compassionate care. They would also like the thank Dr. Travis Nielsen and Junes primary physician of many years, Dr. Mark Benson, and his wonderful staff. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Colonial Funeral Home 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, Idaho 83201. 208-233-1500 with a viewing for one hour prior to services.
