Julius Frederick "Fred" Goetz, 74, of Chubbuck, passed away peacefully, at his home, Thursday, August 13, with Jean and hospice at his side.
Fred was born December 12, 1940 in Garden City Kansas to Julius and Mabel Goetz Johnson. The family moved shortly thereafter to Twin Falls, Idaho.
He attended St. Edward's Catholic School for 8 years and graduated from Kimberly High School in 1958.
Fred joined the Army Reserves and worked various jobs in the Magic Valley. He began working for the Union Pacific Railroad, working out of Pocatello.
While working in Burley in 1979 he met Jean Harkness. They were married July 8, 1980. They made their home in Pocatello and Chubbuck with Jean's two children. He never had children of his own.
Fred and Jean divorced in 1998, however they remained close friends.
Fred enjoyed snow skiing, hunting, woodworking, and welding. He was very talented and has made furniture and picture frames for many of his friends
He is survived by his siblings: Wayne (Sylvia) Goetz of Kimberly; Tony (Pat) Goetz of Kamiah; Rose (Dave) Fulton of Wendell; Sheila (Barrett) McClure of Jerome; and Barbara (Joe) Bryson of Emmett. He is also survived by Jean Chopski and her children; Kevin (Jade) Harkness of Pocatello; and Brandi (Ray) Hubbard of Holbrook. Also surviving him are several nieces, nephews, and Jean's grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Julius Goetz and Mabel Goetz Johnson.
Following his wishes he was cremated and there will be no services in Pocatello. His ashes will be buried with his parents in the Jerome Cemetery. There will be a graveside service at the Jerome cemetery at 11:00 AM on Friday August 21, 2015 with military honors by the Magic Valley Honor Guard and the Idaho National Guard.
