Julia Anette Bishop

July 3, 1936 — May 22, 2016

Julia Anette Cuthbert Bishop, 79, long-time Blackfoot resident passed away May 22, 2016 at the Idaho State Veterans Home with family present.

Julia was born in Idaho Falls on July 3, 1936 to John Alexander Cuthbert and Thelma Catherine (Melogue) Cuthbert. She was raised in and educated in the Idaho Falls area. As a young child she enjoyed helping her dad with everything he did, following him like a shadow. Later she would often hang out with her friends. She often told the story of climbing the rocks on the bank of the Snake River by the Broadway Bridge in Idaho Falls with her lifelong friend, Wilma Neal. That area is gone now.

Julia married her sweetheart, Vernon James Bishop on May 11, 1956 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Vernon enlisted with the US Army in September of 1956, and Julia kept herself busy working and helping with his family and her sister, Ramona.

In the early 1960's, Vernon and Julia now had a young family and moved to Blackfoot where they made a home. Julia worked as a bookkeeper at various places and finally settled at Rocky Mountain Machinery where she worked most of her years. Before retirement, she also worked at various places in Blackfoot and Idaho Falls as a bookkeeper and clerk. She and Vernon moved to Pocatello in the fall of 2002, to be nearer to Vernon's medical providers. They lived at the St. Anthony Place apartments and found great joy and fulfillment while there. After 2007 when Vernon moved into the Idaho State Veterans home, Julia later moved in with her daughter, Vernetta, and then later joined Vernon there. Julia did not enjoy living apart from Vernon and was very happy to join him where they got to share a room.

Julia was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and went to the temple often. Her hobbies were crocheting, reading, and playing Bingo. Through her life, Julia had crocheted many things for her family and others, and won many ribbons on her entries at the Idaho State Fair. She also enjoyed reading and was doing that until the end. Julia also won many trinkets playing bingo at the home.

Julia is survived by her daughters Vernetta Andreason of Pocatello and Loretta Smith of Springfield, sons Steven James Bishop of Blackfoot and DeOr Holyoak Bishop of Utah, 19 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Julia is preceded in death by her parents John and Thelma Cuthbert, her beloved husband of 60 years, Vernon Bishop, son, David Bishop, and grandchildren James and Vicki Bishop.

A memorial service for Julia will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at the Idaho State Veterans Home, 1957 Alvin Ricken Drive, Pocatello, with Chaplain Steven Yadon conducting. The internment will be at Grove City Cemetery in Blackfoot. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Road, Pocatello.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Idaho State Veterans Home for their loving care of Julia during her 7 years in their care.
