Judith Lynne Brutz

Judy was born December 4th, 1940 in Salt Lake City to Dorothy Knerr and George Johnson. She moved to NYC when 10 years old and graduated from Elizabeth Irwin HS. Judy met David Brutz at St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland in 1961. They married on 12/9/61 in Boston, Massachusetts. They moved to Cleveland, Ohio and lived there until 1982. Judy graduated from Kent State with her master’s degree and from Iowa State University in 1988 with her PhD. Judy was married to David until his death in 2011. She remarried in 2015 to Bill Spracklen. They were married until her death on December 1st, 2023.

Judy authored several books and worked as a Marriage and Family Therapist, Hospice Chaplin, and Spiritual Director. As a member of the Society of Friends and Trinity Episcopal Church, she valued spirituality and connection with others. She enjoyed visiting National Parks and loved being with her family and friends as well as knitting, crocheting, reading, and writing.

She is preceded in death by her former husband David Brutz and her parents. She is survived by her son Philip Brutz and his wife, Ruth in Cleveland, Ohio; her daughter Paula Phelps and her husband, Tad in Pocatello, Idaho; her husband Bill Spracklen in Pocatello, Idaho; her grandchildren Heather, Katherine, Megan, and Julia; and her great grandchildren Elisabeth and Gwendolyn.

The family greatly appreciates Trinity Episcopal Church, Symbii Home Health and Hospice, and Elegant Assisted Living for their support and care for Judy over the years and especially in her last months.
