Joyce Monday passed away with her children by her side on December 17, 2024. She had been battling vascular dementia.
Joyce was the 3rd daughter born to Helen and Travis Michaelson on May 3rd, 1948 in Aberdeen, Idaho. Learning how to work hard at a young age on her family farm, Joyce also learned to play and have great fun with her 3 sisters. As a young child in the mornings she was often found in her nightgown sitting on top of the chicken coup or climbing on the counters and jumping into her parent’s arms surprising them. “Joy” was her calling card and that’s what she was known for; always bringing love, kindness and joy to the family. Keeping busy and always going, Joyce was an honor roll student and very involved with her schooling and extra curricular activities. She participated in a myriad of school activities including: Pep band, Pep club, Drill Team, Student government, Choir, FTA, and journalism. She was homecoming attendant her sophomore year along with the FFA sweetheart attendant and won the Aberdeen Jr. Miss title in 1966. She went on to compete in the state pageant and was named Miss Personality.
In 1967 she attended ISU and completed the cosmetology program receiving her certificate and state license. It was during this time that she also met and married Bruce G. Hopkins. Together they had 3 children. In 1975 Joyce made a career move to work retail. She opened up a Bathroom accessory shop in the former Pocatello mall named “Bathtique”. She later moved her boutique into the Pine Ridge Mall and kept it running for 7 years. While being a successful business woman and full time mom with 3 children, Joyce still managed to find time to be involved as an active citizen within her community and local church. She sat on many boards, committees and organizations in Pocatello’s business sector as well as the Pocatello Christian Women’s Club. She loved contributing to her community and networking with other professionals. In 1982 Joyce switched gears and became a marketing representative for CheckRite a bad check recovery service, along with the coordinator position for CheckMate, an education program to help businesses prevent check fraud. Two years later Joyce again changed careers and received her Real Estate License and secured her first associate position at Coldwell Banker Realty. Joyce was selected as the recipient of associate and realtor of the month awards numerous times. In 1987 Joyce joined the Real Estate team of Realty World -C. Forsman. By 1988 she was a member of the Multi Million Dollar Producers Club. In 1991 she was named the top producer of the year and again in 1993 and 1994. Within the next few years, Joyce joined the Remax realty team and continued her Real Estate career until her retirement in 2022.
In 2000, Joyce met and married her second husband Joseph F. Monday. She often spoke of him being the “love of her life”. Together they would travel to Denver, Colorado to support her husband’s career as a Vitamin Rep. Joyce was a very devoted loving wife, mother and friend. A wonderful cook, she would often host family and friends at her house for dinner on the holidays or Sunday afternoons. She was also a great seamstress and would alter her own clothes. She had a creative knack and would decorate and put together gift baskets for special occasions. In her spare time Joyce loved crafting, shopping, watching movies, going on mini traveling excursions, listening to music, enjoying phone calls with her beloved sisters, and spending quality time with her family.
Joyce was a very hard working, caring individual. She enjoyed the simple things in life and often would say how “blessed” she was. With a beautiful smile and a kind heart, she was always the first to donate her time, money and energy to help others. She loved connecting with people and being part of something bigger than herself. Joyce was a dedicated follower of Jesus and loved the Lord with all of her heart. She shined with His light and was a wonderful example of God’s love. Joyce was an extraordinary lady and certainly lived up to her nickname “Joy”. She will be greatly missed, but forever loved and never forgotten.
