On August 10, 2015, Joseph "Perry" McElprang passed away at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, WA as a result of complications related to a heart condition. Perry was surrounded by loved ones at the time of his passing. He was 60 years old.
Perry was born in Del Rio, Texas on July 4, 1955. He was the oldest of Patsy Mae Voyles McElprang and the late Merlin Chris McElprang.
As a young child, Perry lived in Texas, Florida, Utah, and spent most of his growing up years in Etowah, North Carolina. Shortly after high school graduation, he moved to Florida where he joined the US Army. In Florida, he met Shirley Hockett. They were married December 20, 1974 and later divorced.
After his service in the military, he moved to Idaho to attend Idaho State University where he studied electronics. He and his family lived a short time in Auburn, WA and then moved back to Pocatello, Idaho. In Pocatello, he worked for AMI, Computer Hut and Idaho State University, College of Technology. He retired from ISU in 2010. He lived in Pocatello until marrying Trisch Taylor February 16, 2012.
Perry's hobbies included computers, inventing, Netflix, and his grandkids. The weeks preceding his death were spent in Vancouver with "the grands" watching movies, relaxing, and telling stories. He was excited to spend time with them at the Clark County Fair eating elephant ears and watching them show their goats.
Perry is survived by: his mother, Patsy Voyles McElprang (Roseville, CA); siblings, Mark (Cindy) McElprang of Mesa, AZ, Patti (Ed) Clemons of Salt Lake City, UT, Beth (Greg) McCurdy of Sparks, NV, Ruth McElprang of Roseville, CA, David (Veronica) McElprang of the Dominican Republic; wife, Trisch Taylor of Boise, ID; children, Missy (Matt) Cummins of Vancouver, WA, Chrissy (JR) Farnsworth of Pocatello, ID, Chris (Pam) McElprang of Pocatello, ID, Mike McElprang of Pocatello, ID; step-daughter, Brett Taylor of Boise, ID; step son, Ammon Taylor of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren, Sam (13), Jake (11), Aliza (7), and Addie (5) Cummins of Vancouver, WA.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at the Highland 8th Ward LDS Chapel at 2000 South Fairway Drive in Pocatello, Idaho. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will follow services on Saturday in the Mountain View Cemetery in Pocatello.
