José Alberto was born in Pocatello ID where he spent most of his life. He attended and graduated from Pocatello High School in 2007. Growing up he enjoyed playing soccer as this was a passion passed on from his father. He really enjoyed spending time with his friends and always finding ways to make others smile or laugh—his best friend Kean I’m sure could attest to this. José Alberto would go on to meet his wife Erika, whom together they would give life to his two beautiful kids Cristian and Lolah. José Alberto would also add another son to his life by marriage-Essaiah. He loved Essaiah like his own and really treasured being with all three children until his final days. They were his life.
During Football Sundays you could catch José Alberto cheering on his beloved San Francisco 49ers. He enjoyed playing basketball, and anything sports related with his kids. He also loved listening to music—from Spanish to English. Towards the end of his life he enjoyed nature and going for walks. He loved reading non-fiction books, swimming, movies, ice cream with his kids and letting his daughter Lolah paint his nails. He also enjoyed spending time at the gym with Essaiah.
He was preceded in death by his Grandfather José Maria Mejia, Grandmother Elena Aquirre, Grandfather Lucio Peña, and Grandmother Tomasa Peña.
José Alberto is survived by his parents Jose & Guadalupe Peña, brothers Erick, and Marcial Peña, and his children Cristian, Lolah Peña, and Essaiah Fernandez.
We would like to thank all the family and friends for the unwavering support, love, and prayers. The Peña family has felt and received all of your messages during this difficult time. We would also like to thank the medical staff and doctors at Portneuf Medical Center for all their care and support until José Alberto’s final day—we appreciate all of you.
