John Ronald “Ron” Berger, 75, passed away peacefully at his home, Friday, February 8, 2013. Ron was born July 10, 1937, in Salt Lake City, Utah to John Frederick and Marian Berger. When Ron was 5 years old, the family moved to California. He attended school in Bellflower, Ca. He later moved to Logan, Utah in 1958. Ron has lived in numerous places but especially enjoyed his time spent in La Habra, Santa Ana, Whittier, Buena Park, California but spent most of his life in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho.
In the spring of 1956, Ron met the love of his life, Nancy Mildred Grey. They courted for 6 months and then were married December 17, 1956. They were married for 56 wonderful years.
Ron was a very optimistic person. Everyone enjoyed his company and looked forward to gatherings in which Ron would attend because he was an absolute delight to be around. Ron was a mentor to everyone. He was a kind spirit. He was loved for his integrity and selflessness. He always put someone else's needs before his own. He rooted for the underdog. Ron loved the ocean. He enjoyed golf, photography, business ventures, art, and delicious food. He was an avid chess player, challenging anyone to a game. Most of all, Ron enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Thank you to all of Ron's friends and acquaintances, past and present for all of your loving support throughout the years. Your friendships and gestures have been heartfelt and will be treasured for years to come.
Ron is survived by his wife, Nancy Berger (Lava Hot Springs, ID), son, John Kelly (Maria Reyes)Berger, Hilo, HI, daughter, Lynda (Greg) Kleckner, (Lava Hot Springs, ID) son, Brian Dewain (Tammy) Berger, (Greeley, CO), a dear family friend, Trish Minor, (Lava Hot Springs, ID), brothers: William (Bill) Frederick (Sandy) Berger (Farmington, UT) and Robert Emil (Billie Fay) Berger (North Salt Lake City, UT), a sister, Nancy Joanne Swan, (Murrieta, CA), brother-in-laws: Don J. Grey and Dale (Debbie) Grey, grandchildren: Daniel Clay Morgan, Rachael Ashley Morgan, Heather Turner, Brandon John Najdovski, Alex Zoran Najdovski, Christopher John Berger, Dawson Michael Berger, two “just like” grandchildren, dear family friends: Brad (Sadie Mae), Kennedi Raine, and Mason Minor and one great-grandchild on the way.
Ron is preceded in death by both parents and a step-mother Dorothy Foster Berger and numerous extended family.
Services for Ron will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the Lava Hot Springs LDS Chapel, 437 W. Spring St, Lava Hot Springs, Idaho with Bishop Lynn Stewart officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow services at the Lava Hot Springs Cemetery.
