POCATELLO-John Overy, 64,passed away in the early morning hours Sunday, July 24, 2011 at his home with his family at his side. He was born and raised in Nampa, Idaho to Leslie James and Wanda Annie (Henderson) Overy, and was joined by a brother named Thomas. At the age of 17 he joined the Navy and served in the Vietnam War. During one of his visits to his parents who had moved to Pocatello, ID he met and married the love of his life Cheryl Lee Rowe on April 19, 1969 and sealed in the Temple on August 5, 2010. Together they moved to California where they raised three children; Robert Leslie, Michelle Lee and John Paul in a small town called Manteca. In 2006 with the kids all grown and gone with families of their own he brought his wife and moved back home to Pocatello to be close to family where they planned to retire. His hobbies included; clock repair, fishing, gold panning, reading and studying history and spending time with his family. Some of the places he worked for over the years were Southern Pacific Railroad, PG&E and B&W all in California & FMC and J.H. Kelly in Pocatello, Idaho. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cheryl Lee (Rowe) Overy of Pocatello, ID; brother, Tom (Sandy) Overy of Nevada; son, Robert (Patti) Overy of Green River, WY; daughter, Michelle (Cody) Emeterio of Pocatello, ID; son, John Overy of Rockland, ID; ten grandchildren, Johnny, Tyler, Adam and Ashlyn Overy, Joseph and Annie Emeterio, Jordan, Robert, Emma and Evelyn Overy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Wanda (Henderson) Overy of Rockland, CA. Services for John will be held on Friday, July 29, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the LDS Highland 9th Ward, located at 2140 Satterfield Drive with a visitation the evening before at Colonial Funeral Home 2005 South 4th Avenue from 6 - 8:00 P.M. Burial will follow the services at the Mountain View Cemetery with Veteran Honors by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Creekside Hospice, 4425 Burley Drive, Suite C, Chubbuck, ID 83202. Colonial Funeral Home is caring for John's family.
