John ‘Jack' Garnet Hansen, 79, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday July 20, 2010. Jack, as he was known, was born April 22, 1931 in Grant, Idaho as the 12th child of 13 to Ruben Parley and Ellen Helm Hansen.
He attended schools in Rigby and Pocatello. He attended Pocatello High School where he played baseball, football and basketball. However, despite being offered a scholarship to play football, Jack quit school three months before graduation to serve in the United States Navy. He served 13 years in the Navy working as an Electrician's Mate.
Jack met and fell in love with Ruby Farnworth, they were married on January 27th, 1964 in Pocatello. It wasn't until March of that year that they were able to honeymoon in Long Beach, California while Jack was on leave.
Jack worked at FMC for over 30 years; he was a licensed EMT and served as Title Shop Steward for the union. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved helping them with their homework, especially math homework. He loved watching them all play ball and he taught them all how to fish, even the granddaughters.
He is survived by; his wife, Ruby Hansen; daughter, Billie Kae (Alan) Kuehn; son, Danny Bill Hansen; daughter, Lori Ann (Todd) Chandler; son, Johnny Thomas (Jill) Hansen; seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; two siblings, Edna ‘Teddy' McClean and Otis Karyl Hansen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and eleven of his siblings.
