John Dale Brokens

John Brokens was born on March 3, 1923 to John Michael Brokens and Catherine Eldean Walker in Brock, Nebraska.

He graduated from Brock High School and after graduation went to work in the oil fields in Oklahoma, with his brother-in-law, then joined the Army Air Corp, serving in New Guinea and neighboring Pacific islands during World War II. His MOS was a parachute rigger, but spent all of his time in the service refueling aircraft. After the war, he was stationed in Pocatello at the air base and while serving there, met the love of his life, Lenna Faye Brokens. They were married on February 15, 1946 and a year later had a son, Blayne Brokens. They also have 3 grandchildren, Marjean (Dave) Richey, St. George, Utah; Chad Brokens, Sugar City, Idaho and Daniel Brokens, Weston, Idaho, and have 12 great grandchildren.

John worked at numerous jobs throughout the years, at the refinery, Eddy's bakery, Hunziker Sand and Gravel, Patton and Linton Concrete, Lamb Weston, construction and Garrett Freight-lines. John owned and operated his own business as a Shell Oil Distributor and was very loyal to his customers who loved and respected him for his honesty and integrity. He later sold the distributorship and was going to retire, but had the desire to start another business in oil distributorship, then sold that business and worked as a sales representative for that same business. John was always dedicated to his work and his customers and enjoyed being around people.

John was an avid hunter and enjoyed big game hunting and bird hunting and loved to trap shoot. He was the President of the Pocatello Trap Club and donated time and money to help start the Broken Clays trap club. Even when he couldn't shoot, he would go to the trap club early in the morning and get a fire started for the shooters. He loved to garden and work in the yard and always had a beautiful yard and garden. He grew wonderful cabbage and other vegetables, much of which he gave away to neighbors or donated them to the Salvation Army. He will be missed by friends and family.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 South 5th Avenue, with a luncheon to follow at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 West Chubbuck Road. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family under the "Tribute Wall" tab.
