John Franklin Burge, also known as JB, passed away on December 10, 2023, at the age of 84, in Pocatello, ID. He was born on December 25, 1938, in Flora, Indiana. John was a family man and a very loyal friend. He enjoyed spending time with his great-grandchildren, watching westerns and WWE together.
John lived most of his life in Nokomis, Florida where he met and married his first wife Susan in 1958 and had their son. After Susans passing, John met Rena in 1968 and they were married in 1969 and later had 2 more children.
John is survived by his children, Charles Franklin Burge, Melanie Sue King (spouse Angel Machin) and Dawn Marie Bird (spouse Michael Bird). He is also survived by his siblings, Clayton Burge, Philip Burge, Mary Jane Coopey, Billy Joe Burge, and Rosie Clawson. John leaves behind a legacy through his grandchildren, Charles Coy Burge, Timothy Bruce Brodkorb, Alicia Ann Brodkorb, Elizabeth Ann McDonald (spouse Brandon McDonald), Amber Lynn Blanco (spouse Ethan Blanco), Shannon Nicole Mann (spouse Alex Mann) and Anthony Michael Bird (spouse Riley Bird). He was also a loving great-grandfather to Tayla Marie McDonald, Aaliyah Ann Rice, MiKayla Dawn Rose McDonald, Skylar Leigh Rice, Kaison Michael McDonald, Matthew Ray Blanco, Selena Marie Rice, Addison Carma Marie Blanco, Robyn Deanette Josephine Mann, and Aaron John Daniels.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Rena (Irene) May Burge, his first wife, Susan Ann Burge and their infant son, his parents, Marion Burge and Harriet (Smith) Burge, his sister, Marthalee Kelly, his brother, Robert Burge, his sister, Dorothy Mae Jundt, and his brother, Mearl Burge.
During his career, John served as a 2nd Lt. for the Volunteer Nokomis FDP for many years in the 80's as well as a roofer until his retirement in 2003. He cherished his retirement and time he was able to spend with his family in Florida until moving to Pocatello, ID with his wife Rena in 2006.
In his leisure time, John enjoyed having a beer fishing out at the North Jetties in Nokomis, FL, bowling at Myakka Lanes and Galaxy Lanes, and simply spending quality moments with his family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at the Bird residence in Pocatello, ID, on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 4 pm.
John Franklin Burge will be deeply missed by his loved ones and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
