John A. Schaller

John Arnold Schaller, born February 6, 1935 in Rochester, New York went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 18, 2014. He was the son of Reverend Arnold and Ethel (Shellenberger) Schaller. He was one of 5 children including his older sister, Nina, his twin sister, JoAnne, his younger brother Peter and sister, Marybeth. In his early years, John and his family moved often. His father, a pastor in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, served many congregations around the United States. John joined the army in 1953 for two years. There he met the love of his life at a USO dance. They fell in love and married within 5 months and recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on May 11. Their marriage has been an inspiration to many including their children and grandchildren. After his commitment to the service, Edie and John moved to Southern California where he worked and obtained his B.A. in Business Administration. At 25, his first child, John Randall (Randy), was born and at age 28 his second child was born, Julie Anne. John was a wonderful provider for his wife and children. Over the years he worked with the Bank of California, Superior Oil, Boothe Computer Corporation. In 1975, John and a partner began a computer leasing business. By age 45, John retired from his business and began to volunteer his time where his true passion lay. He spent his time in service to his Lord. He did financial work with his church and the Lutheran Extension Fund. In 2002, he moved to Pocatello, Idaho. There he and his wife joined Grace Lutheran Church. He soon held several financial positions there which brought him great purpose. He also joined a mens bible study group which was a source of immense joy to him. Johns passion was the starting of a high school at Grace Lutheran Church. John is survived by his loving wife, Edie, daughter, Julie, daughter in law, Kastli, and grandchildren, Kevin, Kristin, Zack, Kyle, Erika, Trevor and Hollie. He is preceded in death by his son, Randy, and his parents Arnold and Ethel Schaller. Johns Memorial Service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 1350 Baldy Ave. Pocatello, ID. 83201 on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of John A.
