Joe Fred Merklein, 76, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021. He was born on June 27, 1945 to Elmer and Blodwin Merklein. He was a lifetime resident of Pocatello, Idaho, until his passing, where he attended local schools.
Joe married Aliene Kay Marching on December 9, 1965, they were later divorced.
Joe worked for Meadow Gold Daries, Zweigart Meat Packing Co., the Railroad, and as an Assent Zookeeper. He joined the Army in 1963, retiring in 1984.
Joe belonged to the D.A.V. lifetime, the V.V.A. lifetime and the NCOA. He was a member of the Central Christian Church.
Joe loved his dogs, watching tv, going fishing, hunting, and camping. He enjoyed his family and family dinners and loved spending the holidays with them.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Janie (John) Rodriquez of Pocatello, ID; a grandson, Luis Rodriquez of Pocatello, ID; great-grandson, Lucias; great-granddaughter, Gabriella; and great-grandson, Raiden all of Pocatello, ID.
He is preceded in death by his father, Elmer F. Merklein; mother, Blodwin Jane Merklein; grandfather, Joseph A. Seibert; grandmother, Olwien Siebert; and ex-wife, Aliene Gonzales.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 15, 2021 at 2 pm at Colonial Chapel, 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello, ID, with a viewing for one hour prior.
Burial, with Army Military Honors, will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5th Ave. Pocatello, ID.
