On June 8, 2012, Joan Margaret Porter Wright, 69, endured to the end, surrounded by her family after a valiant battle with spinal bone cancer. She was at home under the wonderful care and supervision of Access Hospice. Joan is the daughter of James O. and Leda Sorensen Porter and was born at Pocatello, Idaho on August 5, 1942. Joan attended elementary, junior high and senior high school in the Pocatello School District. She graduated from Pocatello High School Class of 1960 where she was active in Girls Council, Future Homemakers, Spanish Club, International Relations and Tri-Hi-Y. She went onto further her education at Stevens-Henager Business College in Ogden, Utah where she graduated in business and social refinement education. Upon completion of her schooling, she worked for lawyers and CPAs in both Odgen, Utah, and Pocatello, Idaho. She married Thomas G. Wright on January 5, 1962 at Pocatello, Idaho. The marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. They had four children; David, Scott, Michael and Jennifer. She was preceded in death by her parents and Son David. Joan played the piano and organ using those and other skills many times to serve in various callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She liked to do many things and excelled in ceramics, knitting and counted cross stitch. She made and maintained many friendships throughout her life, having traveled frequently with her husband who served and subsequently retired from the U. S. Navy. On one of those military assignments with her husband, Joan worked for the radiologists at Camp Zama Army Hospital, Camp Zama Japan. Most recently, Joan worked 20 years at the Registrar's Office, Idaho State University, where she retired in 2000. She and her husband are longtime supporters of Idaho State University Athletics and are members of Bengal Athletic Boosters and Women's Basketball Fast Break Club. Joan loved and was loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband Thomas, a brother Ray Porter(Myrna) of Eagle, Idaho; sons Scott(Dayna) of Preston, Idaho and Michael(Susana) of Pocatello; and a daughter Jennifer(Bret) of Burley, Idaho. She has 10 grandchildren including a set of triplets and twins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 15, 2012, at the Indian Hills Ward Chapel, 5425 Bannock Highway. A visitation will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave, and also one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
