Joan Pew

Joan Claire (Schiele) Pew, 90, of Pocatello passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at her home after a lingering illness with family members by her side.

Joan was born on March 9, 1933 in Pocatello, ID to Louis and Marcella Schiele. The family moved from Pocatello to Twin Falls and eventually ended up living in Boise, ID. Joan attended high school at St. Teresa’s Academy and graduated in 1952. She attended Boise State University for a year after high school but left college to be with the love of her life, Emil Robert (Bob) Pew.

She married Bob on April 18, 1953 at St John’s Cathedral in Boise, ID. They moved to Pocatello where they made their home.

Joan worked at ISU Student Health from 1964 to 1990 as an Administrative Assistant.

After retiring, Joan and Bob loved to spend much of their summers at their cabin in Island Park. They also enjoyed traveling; going on cruises, sightseeing throughout Europe, and would take trips south to warmer climates during the winter months. Joan also loved to do needlepoint, crochet, play bridge with friends and was an avid reader. She was an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and was active in the Idaho Council of Catholic Women (ICCW).

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Marcella Schiele; her brother Frank Schiele; and her daughter in law Taunya D. Pew. She is survived by her children, Linda (Darrell) Schroeder of Port Orchard, Washington; Gary (Sheryl) Pew of Boise; and Steve (Christine) Pew of Pocatello. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ken (Anna) Schroeder and Scott (Katie) Schroeder of Port Orchard, Washington; Cassaundra (Michael) Zasada of Suffolk, Virginia; Erich Pew of Pocatello; and Travis (Rebecca) Converse of Pocatello. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 6-8 pm at Colonial Chapel, 2005 S. 4th Avenue in Pocatello. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 10 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 524 N. 7th Ave. in Pocatello. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5th Ave. in Pocatello.
