On March 6, 2021 at the age of 88, Joan Olson gained her Angel wings surrounded by her loving family. Joan is an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
She was born in a tent on the lava rocks in Shoshone, Idaho on July 17, 1932. She was the 7th of 9 children and was the last living sibling. She married Walt Anderson and together they had six children, they later divorced. She met her knight and shining armor, Kay D. Olson, and they were married on April 22, 1966. Together they had a daughter, giving them seven wonderful treasures. She lived the past 22 years as a widow.
Joan loved family reunions and large gatherings of family and friends. Kay and Joan began a family tradition for their children and grandchildren to get together on Christmas Eve. In her younger years she loved to bowl and play softball. In her golden years she enjoyed playing pinnacle and bingo with her friends at the Senior Center. She is greatly known for her wonderful baking and cooking skills and her contribution to Butter Burr's Restaurant.
Joan is survived by six children Gary (Christy) Anderson of Pocatello, Earl (Julie) of Morgan, Utah, Theresa (Terry) Southwood of Pocatello, Sheryl Talbot of Pocatello, Linda (Fred) Zweigart of Pocatello, Kim (Carrie) Olson of Chubbuck, 20 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was so proud of her entire family and loved them with every fiber of her being. She was preceded in death by her first born daughter Colleen Newby, two son-in-laws Tom Newby and Kelly Talbot, two grandchildren Paul Newby and Tracy Talbot, one great-granddaughter Siera Hadley, her parents, and all of her siblings.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Pocatello Senior Activity Center at 427 N 6th Ave Pocatello, Idaho 83201.
A celebration of life will be held in her honor at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Road Chubbuck, Idaho. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday, as well as from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Wilks Funeral Home.
