Joan Marie Clawson, 83, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, returned to her Heavenly Father on Sunday, January 28, 2018. She passed away of natural causes surrounded by her family and loved ones. Joan was born on August 29, 1934, in Pocatello, Idaho where she lived and worked her entire life. She was the daughter of Edward Emanuel Simmons, Sr. and Margarette Hancock Simmons. While attending Pocatello High School, Joan met and married Vernon Jay Barnhart. Jay was seventeen and Joan was sixteen when they eloped on January 6, 1951, which was the talk of the town. Joan always talked about how the only thing she ever wanted was to be married and have a home of her own. She couldnt wait to be married. Their marriage was full of activities as they liked to camp, boat, bowl, dance, etc. They were married 30 years and were blessed with three children, Kathy, Jackie, and Tom. They were later divorced. On March 13, 1981, Joan arried Gary D. Clawson of Pocatello. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Gary was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. They enjoyed traveling and had many wonderful experiences together during their 36 years of marriage. Joans happiness came from enjoying her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, who all loved her dearly. Everyone loved her fun, animated, and spirited personality. She had a great gift for storytelling. She was not judgmental and showed unconditional love to all those around her. Joan took pleasure in sewing, crocheting, and oil painting. Many of her creations have become treasured family keepsakes. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she had a passion for family history and extraction. Her life centered around family. When she got older, Joan worked as a realtor for Landmark Real Estate. From the time she was first married, she found great happiness in creating beautiful homes. Joan is survived by her husband, Gary D. Clawson of Pocatello; three children, Kathy Jo (Michael) Merzlock, Jackie L. (Tom) Strickland, Thomas J.
