CHUBBUCK " Jimmy E. Driever, 54, finished a twenty-five year long, toe to toe battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease peacefully at home on August 18, 2009.
He was born in Pocatello, Idaho on March 24, 1955 and raised by two loving parents, Jim and Carolyn Driever. He was the second of four children.
Jim met his high school sweetheart, Ann Jesse, at Highland High School in April 1973. They later married on August 14, 1976 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Pocatello, Idaho. They were blessed with two daughters, Nicole and Whitney.
After graduating high school, Jim worked at J.R. Simplot as a laborer. He then attended Idaho State University College of Technology graduating in body mechanics. Upon graduation, Jim worked at Paul's Pontiac and strived for perfection. Jim knew his real love was to become a firefighter. In October of 1980, Jim's dream was realized when he became a firefighter for the City of Pocatello.
Jim loved the outdoors, including skiing, camping, softball, and track and field. He received many trophies and medals from the Idaho Police and Firefighters games held in Pocatello and Sacramento, California; and the World Police and Firefighter Olympics held in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Jim was also a talented and accomplished artist continuing to draw, with the help of a computer, throughout his illness.
In June 1985, Jim was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease prompting him to retire early from the fire department. Doctors gave him six months to live and he was told he would not survive to see his youngest daughter born. Jim defied his prognosis and beat all odds seeing his daughters grow up and graduate, walk them down the aisle, and become mothers themselves.
Jim is survived by his wife of 33 years, Ann; two daughters, Nicole (Brent) Shutes and Whitney (Bobby) Endo, and one grandson, Kian Endo. He is also survived by his parents, Jim and Carolyn Driever; brothers, Doug (Barbara) and Rick (Cindy); sister, Shauna (Greg) Mullenax along with many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and one grandchild.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22nd at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Road. A viewing will be held on Friday, August 21st from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Wilks Funeral Home in Chubbuck. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery following the service.
