Jimmie J. Griggs

February 25, 1930 — May 25, 2012

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Jimmie J. Griggs, passed away at home May 25, 2012 at the age of 82. Jimmie was born February 25, 1930, to Roscoe B. and Edith E. Griggs in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He graduated from Jordan High School in 1947. He played football for them and was proud of the fact that they were undefeated the three years he played. He loved all sports and especially going to watch the Poky and Highland games. He also really enjoyed watching BYU and the Utah Jazz games on TV.

He loved playing golf at Riverside Golf Course in Pocatello for many years. He also enjoyed going to the Pocatello Rec Center and exercising with his friends. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His favorite place to go was his cabin in Island Park, Idaho. He has always loved to hunt and spent many seasons in Island Park hunting. He enjoyed riding the ATV to visit his friends and neighbors. He loved people and socializing.

He served in the U.S. Army from March 1951 to March 1953. On May 3, 1952, he married the “Love of His Life” Rea Armitstead in Copperton, Utah. They lived in Midvale, Utah. They moved to Pocatello, Idaho in 1961 when he went to work for Newbro Drug Co. as a pharmaceutical salesman. Together they raised four wonderful children: Stephanie S. (Brent) Davis, Jimmie J. (Stephanie) Griggs, Debbie L. (Mark) Thomas, and Terry D. (Robin) Griggs.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years; 4 children; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren with another on the way; and a sister Pat Selman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Roscoe Griggs; two sisters, Lorraine Cleveland and Gwen Shannon.

The family is planning a celebration of his life at the cabin this summer. The family would like to express our gratitude and deep appreciation to the staff of Creekside Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of our father.
