Jim Harveston

d. March 1, 2012

James "Jim" Harveston, Jr., 72, of Pocatello, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2012, at his home surrounded by family and cloaked in love. Jim fought a hard and courageous battle against Small Cell Lung cancer. He was born on September 10, 1939, in Columbia, Louisiana, to James "Dobie" and Sevilla Harveston. His twin sister Janiece preceded him in birth by 20 minutes and he spent the next 72 years following her. He was raised in Louisiana until his family moved to northern California when he was 13. He would later find his way to Pocatello, following his twin sister to the city. Jim married Shirley Sparks on Nov 7, 1959. They were happily married until Shirley's death in 1993. Jim later married Judy Echevarria Huse on September 20, 1996 and they spent 15 wonderful years together. Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, often boasting of his glory days as a Golden Gloves Boxer. Throughout his life Jim worked for and owned several construction companies, he also worked in law enforcement in both Eldorado County, Ca and with the Bannock County Sheriffs Dept. in Idaho. Jim found his passion when he began flying in the early 60's, he flew for numerous law enforcement agencies and as a corporate pilot and flight instructor. Jim was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, Search and Rescue, and the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. He was the proud winner of the Seagull Bay fishing derby a couple times, but was bested more than once by his wife Judy. He also loved country music. He was a self taught guitar player and singer who enjoyed entertaining friends and family, and everyone he met became family or friend. He spent many years playing gigs with his beloved band "The Mavericks" throughout Northern California and Nevada and later he was the main attraction at the Seagull Bay Yacht Club in American Falls, Idaho. He is survived by his wife Judy Harveston of Pocatello; daughter Vicki (Fred) Roehrick of Kingman, AZ; daughter Sherri (Tod) Noble of Tucson, AZ; daughter Terry Lebrecht (Scott Hachmeister) of Pingree, ID; son Brett (Jeanetta) Huse of American Falls; son Brad (Michelle) Huse of American Falls. He was blessed with, and loved and adored each and every one of his 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife Shirley; sister Annalee Moore; and twin sister Janiece Rufi. Following Jim's wishes, a private family graveside service will be held. Jim and his family wish to extend a heartfelt thank you for the loving care he received from all of the staff at the Portneuf Cancer Center with a special thank you to Dr. Michael Callaghan (a.k.a.
