Jerry Dean Witt, 76, passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 14, 2024 at Heritage Park Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Roy, UT.
Jerry was born to Theadore (Ted) Witt and Ester Dorothy Elwanger-Witt on June 28, 1949, in Ainsworth, Nebraska while attending his grandpa’s funeral. He spent the next 16 years growing up in Pierre, South Dakota. At 16 he moved his family to Pocatello. Jerry attended Highland High School where he played football. He graduated high school in 1966 and enlisted in the USMC in 1967.
From 1967-1970 Jerry served in the USMC. He attained the rank of Sargent E-5 and served in Vietnam. Before his first tour ended, he was injured and spent the time recovering at Camp Pendleton in Southern California. When not on duty he would go to Dodger games and continued to watch the Dodgers the rest of his life.
Jerry married the love of his life, Barbara Crowder on March 3, 1972. Shortly after getting married, he graduated Idaho State University with an associate’s degree in Electrical Drafting. They lived in Pocatello to start their life and then moved to: Phoenix, Arizona, Austin, Texas, Boise, Idaho, then came back to Chubbuck during retirement. In Austin, Brent was born on December 14, 1975. Eric was born in Chubbuck on April 26, 1982.
Jerry grew up hunting and fishing in South Dakota and continued when his family moved to Idaho. Jerry and his family were usually camping with either hunting or fishing being the focal point of the trip. He stayed busy during his life with softball, dog training, archery shoots, and coaching his boys in sports.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons, Brent (Brandy) Witt, Eric (Shanna) Witt; and granddaughters.
Open house will be held at Wilks Funeral home in Chubbuck from 2-4pm. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.
Family and friends are welcome at the home of Barbara Witt following the service. Light refreshments will be served.
