Jean Bowen Lazusky

February 5, 1923 — October 6, 2014

Full of life, active and positive most of her days – that's how many remember Jean Bowen Lazusky. Born in Downey, Idaho on a blizzardy February day in 1923 to Jennie and Harry Bowen, she was the third daughter in the family to be followed by three brothers. She attended Downey schools graduating from Downey High School and then headed off to Business College in Salt Lake City. It was her first time away from home and so homesick.

Things changed when she met a young G.I named Joe. While he was sent to the Philippines, she kept busy as a secretary in several places, but after the war they were married and then spent some time with his family in Pennsylvania. Their first daughter, Barbara, was born while there. Moving to Idaho their second daughter, Christine was born in Pocatello.

Jean worked as a bookkeeper, then a teller at Idaho Bank and Trust for about 13 years, then came a move to Las Vegas in 1963. While there her husband died in a boating accident and two years later her youngest daughter died. In 1972 she left the sunny climes returning to Pocatello.

In addition to working at ISU for19 years – retiring in 1990, she has filled her time with friends, spectator sports, music and dancing, and plays. She is a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ and has loved being near her granddaughter, Jenny, husband Greg, and five of her great grandchildren. Her daughter Barbara, husband Ed and two grandchildren, Summer and Andrew, his wife Faith and one great grandchild live in Louisiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joe, and daughter Christine. The only sibling surviving is her brother Bill in Downey.

Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Sat., Oct. 18, 2014 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ 309 N. Garfield in Pocatello.
