Jay B. Busby

November 14, 1923 — August 10, 2012

Jay Brogan Busby passed away on August 10, 2012.

Jay was born November 14, 1923 in Providence, Utah to Mabel and Bert U. Busby. He attended school and graduated in Pocatello. He attended Logan Academy until he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He spent 18 months in England on B-24's and received six battle stars. He was instrumental in testing the radio frequencies for the Enola Gay prior to its mission over Japan. Later, he completed the Midland Radio and Television School.

On November 17, 1946 he married Gaya M. Rudd. That marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple.

Jay served as co-president of the Whittier P.T.A., a position he greatly enjoyed. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held the office of High Priest. He also was a teacher in the Primary, which he loved very much. He was involved with little league baseball for 12 years coaching his sons; he also employed the services of his daughters and wife as coach's assistants, and scorekeepers. He was a respected building contractor in the Pocatello area for many years, and was key in the organization of Pocatello's first Parade of Homes.

The families enjoyed many summer outings at Red Fish Lake. He loved to walk and see all the beauty in the mountains. He enjoyed and loved his grandchildren. He loved his wife and family very much, and left this parting statement, “I enjoyed my family and wife more than anything else in my life. They are wonderful!”

Jay is survived by daughters, Linda Tobias; Teresa (Jim) Schmidt; Cindy (Glen) Fullmer; sons, Larry (Sheila) Busby; Mike (April) Busby all of Pocatello; 17 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren, (with two more on the way). He was preceded in death by his wife, Gaya M. Busby; parents, Bert U. Busby and Mable E. Busby; a brother, Reed B. Busby; a sister, Francis Fay McKinney; three grandsons, Brandon Fullmer, Christopher Schmidt and Daniel Schmidt.
