Jason Kim Solum

December 27, 1978 — August 23, 2020

Jason Kim Solum, 41, passed away on August 23, 2020.

Jason was born December 27, 1978 in Soda Springs, Idaho to Kim and Sandra Solum. Jason attended schools in Marsh Valley, and he received his GED. He lived in McCammon, Pocatello, San Angelo, Texas and Sanderson, Texas.

Jason married Dawn West and to that union 4 children were born. They later divorced.

Jason met his soul mate and person Jeannie Pena in 2010; because of his illness, they could never marry, as they wanted to because he did not want her liable for his medical bills. After 9 1/2 years together, they separated living spaces but they never really separated. She took care of him, loved him, advocated for him and cherished him. They had a special love that many can only dream of.

Jason was a wonderful, fun, supportive, understanding and loving Dad to his children, he loved them with all he had. He enjoyed their visits for the summers in Texas, camping trips, Easter egg hunts, Christmas and thanksgiving dinners and visits with them.

He had five grandchildren JJ, Jaycee, Jason, Aiden and Presley. He was so excited and felt so loved when Kandiss told him that her new baby boy was going to be named after him. We are so glad he was here for that and had that moment and memory just a few weeks ago.

Jason is survived by his soul mate Jeannie Pena, children; Kandiss Solum (Jose Cardona). Damian Solum and Triniti Solum. Stepchildren; Joey Lacy and Frankie Martinez. Brothers; Kevin Ashbaker and Eddie Solum. Sisters; Barbie Solum and Heidi Solum. Grandchildren; JJ, Jaycee, Jason, Aiden and Presley. Several Cousins, Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews, as well as by his faithful pitbull Angel.

He was preceded in death by his daughter; Taylor, his Mom, Dad, Grandparents, cousin Mike, niece Shania and nephew Cody,

Jason was a crazy, avid and loyal Raiders fan. He was so excited to see them go to Vegas because of the possibility that he may have been able to see them. The last couple of years every time he had an opportunity to fly to Oakland to see them he became sick and could not make the trip. We are sad that dream never came true but he will be cheering them on from his paradise.

Jason loved to go camping with Jeannie to their special spot in Rockland, this is where his memorial will be and some of his ashes spread. He always wanted to go to the ocean but they were never able to make the trip because of his dialysis needs. Jeannie will take some of him with her when she goes to the east coast and set him free in the ocean.

Jason wanted to work but his illness made it difficult. He was able to have a few years of good enough health to work and it made him feel good to have that independence and freedom. He worked at Sanderson tire center, Pine ridge mall, Chili's and his last job that he really loved up until he could no longer do it was at Portneuf medical center ending in 2017 working beside Jeannie's mom Marian.

He loved to tinker around though as long as he could see. He enjoyed movies, comic con and concerts; the last couple of years he was unable to see any distance or with any brightness so these became less frequent for him. He was able to attend some great concerts though. Jeannie asked him last year if he could see any band who it would be. He said Breaking Benjamin and she surprised him with tickets to see them last September in salt lake. She dragged him to Tooele for 4 days at a country music festival 3 years ago. He ended up sick but did not want them to leave so she could enjoy the concerts.

So many people loved Jason but he was not aware of it. He always felt as if he only had a small circle but he always had a large one cheering for him. We think he is seeing that now.

We would like to give our sincere thanks to his amazing medical care team. Fahim and Naheem Rahim his kidney doctors who gave him these extra years, Idaho kidney institute nurses, technicians and staff for the great care they gave him, Dr. Brady Martin and Tyler Hepworth. We would not have had him to make memories with these last 5 years without all of you.

We would also like to thank all our family and friends for their love and support the last several years.

Jason's wish was to be cremated and buried with his baby girl.
