Janet M Peck

May 23, 1942 — June 20, 2021

Our precious mother Janet Mecham Peck, 79, of Pocatello passed away June 20, 2021, at Portneuf Medical Center following a sudden debilitating brain injury. Her loving family surrounded her and said goodbye as she ascended to the arms of heaven. She will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure to know her.

She was born May 23, 1942, in Burley, Idaho to Elden Hal Senior and Harriet Pixton Mecham followed by sister Joan and brothers, Elden Hal Junior and Robert. They were raised in the Burley/Rupert area, and all learned the value of hard work. Janet graduated from Minico High School in 1960. That same year she met and married her sweetheart, Rulon G. Peck in the Idaho Falls Temple. In 61 years together they raised four children: Mark, Jill, Roger, and Colleen. She was a loving, devoted wife and mother who doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Everyone she loves has a framed photo displayed proudly in her home.

She was very organized and thrifty. Her home and children were always neat, clean, and well managed. While her kids were in school, she worked at Red Steer and Taco Bandido in Pocatello. Later she helped Rulon and Mark run the office side of Lion’s Equipment Company. Janet instilled in each of her children the importance of working hard and doing your best at everything.

Janet had a special love of music. She played the clarinet in high school and played the piano beautifully. She sang as an alto in her church choir and conducted the music in church services for many years. Her favorite calling was leading music for Primary. She had a deep appreciation for beauty in all forms and found joy in needlework, sewing, crochet, cross stitch, tole painting, and macrame… the list goes on. Her skill at making doll clothes will always be cherished. She made countless crochet hats and booties which were donated to charities. While she greatly disliked camping, she loved nature and all animals, flowers, and trees. As kids we helped her harvest and can the produce from the garden. She valued learning and shared her vast knowledge with her children and grandchildren. She was the quintessential homemaker and so much more.

Janet is preceded in death by her parents, Eldon Hal and Harriet Pixton Mecham; her sister, Joan Mecham Williams; brother, Elden Hal Junior; grandsons, J.J, Justin, and Josh, and son-in-law, Joseph Koudelka. She is survived by brother, Robert Mecham (Paula) of Rupert; husband, Rulon Peck of Pocatello; son, Mark (JoDean); daughter, Jill Koudelka; son, Roger; and daughter, Colleen Neider; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
