James R. Cornell, born February 10, 1933 in Lonemoond Texas to LT and Gussie Cornell, passed away October 19, 2017 in Pocatello, Idaho.
Jim grew up in Dozier, Texas. He moved to Phoenix, Arizona in his early years and enlisted in the US Marines. He served honorably from 1952-1954 obtaining the rank of Corporal. He was awarded the National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. After his discharge from the Marines, he moved back to Phoenix, Arizona where he met Peggy and married October 3, 1955 in New Mexico. He lived in Phoenix for a number of years where he held numerous jobs. In 1976 he moved his family to Inkom, Idaho where he worked for McNabb Farms, Pocatello Supply, Heinz, and in his last years he was a greeter at Wal-Mart. In June of this year, Jim and his wife moved into the Idaho State Veterans Home where he resided until his passing.
Jim was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was involved in the scouting program and he also enjoyed coaching and watching baseball. The Cornell family would like to thank the Idaho State Veterans Home and Access Home Health for all their loving care for Jim.
Jim is survived by his wife Peggy Cornell of Pocatello, ID; Sons Troy (Roxane) Cornell of Pocatello, ID, Rod (Alice) Cornell of West Jordan, UT, and Dwight (Faith) Cornel of Orem, UT; Daughters Renae (Scott) Stearns of Layton, UT, and Lynette Aloise of Pocatello, ID; 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Dean Cornell, mother Gussie Cornell, father LT Cornell, and brothers LB Cornell and Dwayne Cornell.
A celebration of life will be held at 11am on Friday, October 27, 2017 at the Inkom First Ward, 801 N. Rapid Creek Road, with a gathering from 10:00am-10:45am prior to the service.
