Mike was born August 6th, 1946 in Caldwell, Kansas. His family later moved to Pocatello, Idaho where Mike attended school. In 1965, Mike enlisted in the United States Army and served two tours in the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star medals for being wounded in action and acts of valor and heroism. Mike served proudly for 17 years in the Army.

Mike married the love of his life, Cynthia Bartlett and were married for over 53 years. They were blessed with four daughters. Each were born in different states or country as they were stationed state side and abroad during his military career. They traveled to Erlangen, Germany; Fort Stewart, Georgia, Pattonville, Germany and Fort Carson, Colorado. After the military the family resided in Colorado Springs then returned home to Pocatello in 1990.

Mike had a passion for body and fender work and a love of classic cars. He loved working with his hands and created spectacular ice sculptures during his culinary career. In his later years he found a love for long haul truck driving. He loved the open road and traveling across the United States. Due to health issues Mike retired as a disabled veteran. He eventually succumbed from the effects of his exposure to Agent Orange.

Mike was a devoted dad and husband and touted how he was a “girl dad.” He loved his family, as they were his pride and joy. Dinners were always a special time, especially when everyone would come over to eat and watch some Sunday Night Football. He enjoyed a house full of kids, grand kids and his great grandson. He loved to talk football and cheer on his favorite NFL team, the Denver Broncos.

The family is grateful for the efforts of the Pocatello Fire Department and EMTs. They are thankful for the services provided through Physical Therapy Specialist of Idaho, Idaho State Veterans Home and Rocky Mountain Artificial Limb and Brace. A special thanks to Ashley and Marsha at Symbii Home Health and especially to Carlos who continually went above and beyond in his job and became more than a caregiver, Mike treasured his friendship.
