James Laurence Reynolds

November 14, 1943 — May 15, 2023

James Laurence Reynolds was born on November 14, 1943 in Reno, Nevada to Robert and Norma Reynolds. He passed away at home in Washington State on May 15, 2023.

James spent his childhood growing up in Pocatello, Idaho. He was a very bright kid, he won 2nd place in a national DECA competition in DC as a Junior in high school. James completed two associates degrees in engineering and electrical services. He spent most of his life as an electrical engineer, planner and estimator for the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 2007.

James was a private person, but would join in family functions, and even homeless persons functions. He garnished friendships wherever he went. He was known by Don, Jr, or Jim. His beloved friend for years, Dean, affectionally called him ‘Kid’. He spent a lot of his free time involved with organizations and clubs. There were so many that one would have a hard time naming them all! James was a proud member of the VFW. After his retirement, he spent many hours walking the Bremerton waters, at the Salvation Army helping not only Vietnam Vets, but many homeless people. He was a census taker for the homeless, as well as a huge advocate for the crisis line – he always carried cards and spoke with many. James’s main mission in life was to help as many underprivileged people as possible. There was no doubt that he would lay down his life to help another - John 15:13

James was a man of many talents, who wore many hats. He installed the lighting and sound system for the Bremerton Community Theater. He also preformed in many plays at the Bremerton and Port Orchard Community Theaters. During this time of being active in the theater scene, James wanted to try to being a comedian and would try his jokes out on his life partner, Cheryl, anytime he could. James went on many adventures which included sky diving, scuba diving, mountain climbing and hiking. He played in many football, tennis and golf tournaments. He also loved to write poetry, listen to country western music, and act at the local theaters.

James was preceded in death by his father, Robert; mother, Norma; and brother Bob (Rayleen) Reynolds of Pocatello, ID.

He is survived by his sister, Barbara Vandroof of Seattle, WA; his brothers Michael (Kathy) Reynolds and John Reynolds, both of Pocatello, ID; many nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, and many cousins. He was a wonderful person who was loved by all that had the pleasure to know him.
