James Franklyn "Scoots" Damron passed away at home, after a month of hospice care, on October 2, 2015, in Pocatello Idaho, at the age of 80.
Jim was born on May 12th, 1935 in Detroit Michigan to James Franklyn Damron Sr. and Mary Lauretta Christy. He attended Paso Robles High School in Paso Robles California, where he lettered in football and baseball. He graduated, on a June day, in 1954 and joined the Navy the day after.
During his four years of service, he served as a radio man on The Admirals Ship off the coast of Korea, and at Eniwetok Atoll during the nuclear testing. After being honorably discharged with a Medal of Good Conduct, he settled in Montebello California where he met his wife of 56 years, Jewel Crossley.
After they were married they set up house in Pico Rivera, California where they had three of their five children. They later moved to San Jose California where they completed their family with two more children.
Over the next 25 years, he worked for Associated Machine Shop where he worked on many government space projects. Jim engraved his signature on each piece of the lunar land module on which he helped to manufacture, hoping one day it would make it to the moon.
After retiring, He and Jewel moved to be near family in Texas, and finally to Pocatello Idaho, where they have lived since April 2014.
Jim's hobbies and interests were his passions. He loved to build things with his hands. He was an avid model airplane builder, both radio controlled and still model, and tied his own fishing flies. Whether it was being on a baseball diamond, on boat, or the bank of a river; Jim loved being outside. He shared this love with his children. Many family vacations included camping, fishing, or long car trips to new places. It wasn't unlike Jim to throw his wife and 5 kids in the van to go spend the weekend by the lake or cheering on dad in a baseball tournament.
He is survived by his loving wife Jewel Damron of Pocatello, Idaho; his sons, Cary Damron of Kyle, Texas, Shaun Damron of San Francisco, California; Kit Damron of Trophy Club, Texas; his daughters, Kim Damron Seymour of Liverpool, New York; Erin Olsen of Pocatello Idaho; 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; and his siblings Richard Damron of Wofford Heights, California; and Kay Luedtka of Las Vegas, Nevada. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Lark Ellen Damron; and his siblings, Jean Reichmann and Shirley Schiavo.
