POCATELLO " After a long full life, Jack Buffat returned home to his Father in Heaven April 24th, 2009. Jack left behind family and friends that will miss him sorely.
Jack was born December 4th, 1915 in Burley, Idaho to Ella and Emile J. Buffat. He spent his early childhood there until the age of eight. Jack moved with his family to Pocatello where he finished high school at PHS. He later graduated from the University of Idaho in 1942 with a Bachelors Degree in Forestry.
Jack married Charlotte Hunt of Coos Bay, Oregon in 1942, they were later divorced in 1946. Jack joined the Army and served as an officer on Okinawa, then later in the occupation forces in Japan. He then married Evelynne Murri in May of 1946, becoming best friends and sweethearts for the next 62 years. Through their union came their precious angel, Norma Jean and their loving son, Stephen Jack.
Jack was employed with Western Airlines at the Pocatello Airport for 32 years and retired from there in January of 1979. Jack shared his love of the outdoors with not only his family but also many young men in the scouting program. Jack's many activities included being president of the Seagull Bay Boat Club. He served for many years in the Idaho National Guard and Army Reserves. He was the general chairman of the Sportsman's Jamboree in 1965 and had an extra special love for the scouting program. Jack served as his son's leader from Cub Scouts on through Explorer Scouts. He loved teaching classes for children at the Pocatello Airport concerning the “Aspects of Aviation”. Jack was one of the best fishermen you could meet, (next to his sweetheart). Evelynne and Jack treasured the many years they shared together enjoying the great outdoors fishing.
Jack joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1998, being inspired by his loving wife, many great friends, neighbors and the scripture, John 3:16.
Jack leaves behind his wife Evelynne; his son, Stephen Buffat; seven grandchildren and 14 and ½ great-grandchildren. His parents and his daughter Norma Jean preceded him in death.
It has been said, that if Jack could just have a chance to visit with you, you would have a new friend. He has expressed his love and gratitude to the many that blessed and enriched his life through the Good Sam members, snowbird friends, Western Airlines, fishing buddies, those he home taught and walked with in the Pine Ridge Mall.
