Ivan Sorensen

CHUBBUCK - Ivan Vilo Sorensen, 68, passed away September 5, 2011 peacefully at his home. He was born the only child of Vilo and Josephine Alta Simmons Sorensen in Pocatello, Idaho. He graduated from Pocatello High School class of 1962. Upon graduation he enlisted in the USAF and served during the Viet Nam War. He was honorably discharged in November 1965. After the war he returned home and married Verlene Pratt on January 22, 1971 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were married for 32 years and he was her steady, loyal and devoted husband until she passed away on June 9, 2003. He worked for Simplot and later was hired on as a machinist at the UPRR. He worked in the wheel shop and maintenance shop for 30 years until his retirement. He was a member of the machinist union and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Some of his hobbies included going on rides with his sweetheart on their Harley Davidson. Nothing was more important than Verlene. Ivan was strong willed, loyal, kind and had a great sense of humor. He was survived by his brother in heart, and cousin Gary (Joydean) Sorensen, of Pocatello, nieces, Kirsten Sorensen, Boise, Idaho, Megan Sorensen, Pocatello, Idaho and sister-in-law, LaRae Rouse, of Pocatello, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his wife Verlene Sorensen. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Friday September 9, 2011 at the Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave, Pocatello, the family will receive friends and family from 10:00- 11:00 AM prior to the services.
