Ira Ralph Buchanan, 49, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on May 27, 2017 in the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah; following an unexpected illness. Ira was born October 16, 1967 to Phil and JaNeal Buchanan in Pocatello, Idaho. He attended Pocatello High School, Idaho State University and University of Utah. Ira served an LDS mission to the Brazil Rio de Janeiro Mission. He was also an Eagle Scout. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Wasp during the first Gulf War, and later in the National Guard. Ira was employed as a long haul truck driver and trainer for many years. He love to travel and prided himself in having traveled and worked in 49 states. At the time of his death he was employed by Gem State Distributors in Pocatello. Ira cared about people and was always concerned about the well-being of others. He loved fishing, architecture and his family, especially his dog Buck. He loved telling tall tales to his nieces and nephews or anyone who would listen. Ira is loved by his family and we will miss him very much. He is survived by his parents, Phil and JaNeal Buchanan; siblings, Corrie (Bruce) Hiltbrand, Donna (David) Fitzen, Philip (Angela) Buchanan and Zerin (Michelle) Buchanan; 19 nieces and nephews; and 9 grand-nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandparents; and several aunts and uncles. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, ID. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 2, 2017 at 11:00 A.M at the LDS Pocatello Stake Center, 655 S. Grant Ave. with a viewing from 10-10:45 am prior. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5 th Ave. Pocatello, ID 83204.
