Idona May Beebe Stanley, 85, went home to our Heavenly Father, Tuesday January 31, 2017. She was born in Pocatello, Idaho, to Roy and Juanita Beebe on September 25, 1931. She and her two younger brothers, Edwin and Jerry, were raised and attended school in Pocatello. Idona had six children, four girls and two boys. Although times were tough and she had to work to help support them, she said having her kids was the very best thing that ever happened to her. For 14 years Idona worked as a waitress from one end of Pocatello to the other end of Chubbuck. She had the personality and drive that took her from waiting tables to management. For some time, she ran the Frontier Truck Stop Caf and later bought the Rim Rock Bar. During the years that she owned the bar, Idonas mens pool team won many trophies and was the number one team in our area for at least a year and a half. At the same time, Idona put together the first womens pool team who were also quite competitive. Idona had a magnetic personality. She made friends everywhere she went. To this day she has friends across the country that makes a point to stay in touch with her. She is going to be sadly missed. On May 20, 1970 Idona married Herb Stanley. Shortly thereafter, Herbs two young sons and a daughter came to live with them and Idona helped raise them. She loved them as her own. Herbs health required that he live in a warmer climate so the family relocated to Vacaville, California. It wasnt long after that Herb and Idona took on the job of on-site property managers. That was the start of a wonderful career. They were employed by General Realty. They spent many years in Vacaville where their children grew and started families of their own. They loved spending weekends in the hills, camping and fishing. Idona loved all the new friends and family and would go out of her way to help anyone. When the property in Vacaville was sold, Jon Jerrnigan and General Realty, offered the Stanleys a new management opportunity in Hillsboro, Oregon. It was a huge mobile home park and it was a challenge. Idona and Herb took the job. The lions share of the work fell to Idona because of Herbs poor health. She rose to the occasion and took care of business. During this time Idona took many management classes and earned many certifications. Once again, she made many new, lifelong friends. In 2002, while on a trip to Idaho, Herb passed away. Idona returned to Oregon where she continued to manage a manufactured home park in Cornelius. It was a smaller park with less outdoor duties. And of course, she gained even more lifelong friends. In 2004 Idona had to undergo bypass surgery which ended her 30 year property management career. Although she wanted to keep working, her Idaho children convinced her that it was time to come home so in 2005, with the help from her friends, she loaded up and moved home. Idona enjoyed her apartment and her retirement. She loved being able to visit her kids and grandkids along with her many friends and family members. She loved going to lunch, playing BINGO, Sunday concerts in the park, playing cards, family reunions and she LOVED to surprise us with gifts or birthday get togethers. She enjoyed cooking and having people over. She was generous to a fault. She would do anything to help. Due to Congestive Heart Failure and Dementia, Idona lived her final two years in assisted living where she could receive the care she needed. Most caregivers were really taken with her sense of humor and her way of telling them exactly what was on her mind. She fell on November 7, 2016 and broke her hip. She had surgery but she wasnt able to recover. She passed away at Gateway Transitional Care. We would like to express our gratitude to the people who took care of her. A special thank you to the people of Encompass Home Health and Hospice who loved her. Idona is survived by three daughters, Sandy (Vern) Burke, Ruby (Jim) VanSickle and Terri (Butch) Mittelstedt all of Pocatello; stepdaughter, RoseMarie Johnston, Vancouver, Wa; stepson, Mike Stanley, Oregon; daughter-in-law, Diana Barrus, Pocatello; brother, Edwin(Jeanne)Beebe of Pocatello; 33 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
