Hyrum Willard Mikesell

January 3, 1934 — February 9, 2019

On Saturday, February 9, 2019; Hyrum Willard Mikesell returned to the arms of his Heavenly Father. He was 85-years-old. He passed away from age related illnesses. He was in the care of Monte Vista Health Care Center.

He was born January 3, 1934 to George Willard Mikesell and Della Leona Aller; in Pocatello, Idaho. He lived his whole life in Pocatello, where he was educated in the public schools. He attended Pocatello High School and excelled in basketball. It was here in Pocatello, that he met his eternal sweetheart; Madonna (Barbre) Mikesell. They married June 21, 1957. They shared 62 wonderful years together and had three children.

Hyrum dedicated many years to the retail business. Members of the community could count on him to get the best shoes and the right fit. He began his career at Hudson Shoe Store, and then moved to work in the shoe departments of both Fargos and Blocks. He was forced to retire due to health complications.

He was a devoted sports fan and especially loved the Utah Jazz. Hyrum also loved the outdoors. He taught us many life lessons using examples from our surroundings. He loved to hunt deer, elk, ducks, geese, and pheasants. While he enjoyed hunting, he was also an avid fisherman all of his life.

He was a high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a faithful servant to the Lord and a great example to everyone he met.

He is survived by his wife Madonna Barbre Mikesell; daughter, Kory (Emil) Vargason; son, Darren (Felicia) Mikesell; daughter, Lori (Gary) Armstrong; granddaughters, Amy Armstrong, Jamie Armstrong, Hylee Mikesell, Callie (Jacob) Amos-Christie; grandsons, Emil Vargason, Neil Vargason, Dustin (Blake) Mikesell; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Erma (Bill) Wade; numerous brother and sister-in-laws as well as nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by; his parents, George and Della Mikesell; two sisters, Jo Weller and Wilma Oler; brother-in-laws, David Weller, Don Oler and Bill Wade; and sister-in-law, DeAnna Arthur.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to Heather and all those who cared for him from Encompass Home Health and Hospice, as well as the amazing staff at Monte Vista Health Care Center.

Funeral services for Hyrum will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019 at Wilks Funeral Home 211 W. Chubbuck Road. A viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Friday. Interment will follow services in the Mountain View Cemetery. Condolences may be shared with the family online at wilksfuneralhome.com.
