POCATELLO-Howard J. Zahm, 84, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at a local care facility.
Howard was born in Greeley, Nebraska, in 1925 and followed his family to Pocatello in 1938. He worked for the Cream Top Dairy as a young man before joining the U.S. Army in 1941. He served his country with the 26th Infantry Division in France and Germany.
After the war he returned to Cream Top Dairy as a delivery man and also worked part time for Bistline Lumber and Hardware. He also worked for the Pacific Fruit Express for 20 years and owned and operated Imperial Construction Co. for 30 years.
Howard enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing, and puttering. He could fix anything, according to his family.
Howard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Zahm; his son, Larry (Nina) Zahm; his step children, Jay (Susan) Larsen; Cheryle Lemmon; Farrell Larsen, each of whom he treated as his own; a brother, Robert “Bob” Zahm of Las Vegas, Nevada; 15 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren. They will each miss his presence in their lives.
Howard's family members wish to express their heart-felt gratitude to the Ridge Wind staff and Access Hospice for all that was done to care for him and each of them. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Road.
