Howard Elson Hawk

November 22, 1935 — December 24, 2016

Howard Elson Hawk, 81, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at a local health care facility following a long struggle with Alzheimer's. He was born November 22, 1935 in Rupert, ID. In 1953 his family moved to Pocatello where he attended Pocatello High School. There he met the love of his life Jenny Elizabeth Contos and they were married in October, 1954. He worked for Garrett Freightlines from 1954 until his retirement. He continued to drive for Snake River Cattle, Parsons, and others throughout his life and maintained his CDL designation until the time of his death. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hunting, and fishing. He and Jenny spent most summers in Island Park enjoying long term friendships that still exist today. Howard loved taking his kids and grandkids fishing and sightseeing throughout the Island Park area. He was a past Master of Mt. Kinport Masonic Lodge No. 95 and lifetime member. He is survived by his wife, Jenny; daughter, Brenda (Don Rommel) Pocatello; son, Randy (Holly) Portland, Or.; son, Brian (Mary Ellen) Pocatello; grandchildren, Phinon Woodside, Garrit Hawk, Breanna Hawk, JD Elmore, Dalton Dieter; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Davis (Nampa) and Alice Latta (Denver). He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marilyn Landreth; and mother-in-law, Rosie (Granny) Contos. A celebration of life will be held later in the spring.
