Hazen David Sedgwick
November 20, 1942 – December 28, 2023
Dedicated to the one who taught us to peer into the heavens and reach for the stars.
Our hearts are filled with multiple emotions as we celebrate sweet memories while announcing the passing of Hazen David Sedgwick. Hazen was born on November 20, 1942, in Fort Sill, Oklahoma to David & Rhea Sedgwick. At age 81, and after suffering many health issues over the past number of years, our hero finally experienced peace as he left this earth life on December 28th to be reunited with his treasured wife in the presence of his Savior.
Hazen was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served in multiple positions including a two-year full-time mission in the Western United States. Following his mission, he met the love of his life, Edna Mary Clement, and the two were sealed for all eternity in the Oakland Temple. They had just celebrated 51 years of marriage before her passing. Hazen had an immense love for the Lord and was very in tune with spiritual promptings during his life and used that guidance to lead and protect his family.
Standing at 6’4”, Hazen was a quiet giant of a man who possessed the most tender heart. He was a constant source of unconditional love and unwavering concern for the well-being of his family. This was one of the most profound gifts he freely gave.
Hazen was known for his love of life’s joyous moments. His laughter was contagious! He had a witty sense of humor, a knack for storytelling and creative dad jokes, and often had everyone around him laughing. In fact, his children and grandchildren looked forward to being with him so they could recount their humorous experiences and see and hear his reactions.
From a young age Hazen was fascinated with the heavens. His love for aerospace drew him to gaining his private pilot’s license. He shared this passion with his children, igniting them to dream big to the point that they now have careers in science and math. He took great pride in watching his children grow and share their talents including teaching the next generation an art form, working in accounting, becoming a geologist, engineering fighter jets for the U.S. Air Force, and launching rockets to the heavens with NASA.
Hazen’s legacy will live on through the love he gave, the lives he touched, and the values he instilled in us all. He is survived by seven children, twenty grandchildren, five greatgrandchildren, a brother, three sisters, six brothers-in-law, a sister in-law and multiple nieces
and nephews. Along with his eternal sweetheart, he is now reunited in heaven with a daughter, sister, parents, parents-in-law and multiple grandparents.
We wanted to thank all of those who made an impact in Hazen’s life, including the caring staff at Highland Glen Assisted Living & Memory Care and Suncrest Hospice. We are extremely grateful to all of those who have reached out to send condolences. It has brought much needed peace into our hearts.
Please join us in celebrating his life with a viewing which will be held Friday, January 5, 2024 from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service a 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building located at 13979 W. Siphon Rd., Pocatello, Idaho (83202). Following the funeral service, a graveside service will be held at Restlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Pocatello.
