Hassan Abou-Bakr

June 4, 1952 — July 13, 2017

Hassan Desouki Abou-Bakr, 65, of Pocatello, passed away during the afternoon of Thursday, July 13th, 2017. He died in the city in which he raised his family and the place he called home.

Hassan was born June 4th, 1952 in Cairo, Egypt to father, Desouki Abou-Bakr Mohammed and mother, Wadida Ahmed Mahmoud. He was raised in Cairo alongside his eight brothers and sisters. Hassan came to the United States in 1976, where he attended Idaho State University. It is here that he met, later to wed, Candi Lyn Anderson, the mother of his beloved children, Jamila Abou-Bakr and Tariq Hassan Abou-Bakr. Together they formed a family whose bonds would forever remain strong.

Nothing in Hassan's life surpassed his love for his children. He often remarked that being a father was his life's purpose and greatest joy. He was a wonderful, loving, and giving father. His children will miss him dearly and reflect fondly upon their memories with him.

Hassan had a life-long passion for teaching physical education and coached many sports teams throughout his life—including his favorite sport, soccer. Hassan was a well-liked teacher who made an impression on his students. His face would light up every time a former student said hello.
Hassan was fortunate enough to see his children earn college degrees and, just recently, his daughter graduate from law school. He was incredibly proud of his children and was sure to tell everyone he knew. Hassan sacrificed so much for them during his lifetime. It is his love, constant support, and astounding generosity that kept his children going throughout the years. Their accomplishments are his accomplishments, and he will live on through them.

Hassan is survived by his two children, Jamila and Tariq; his four brothers, Hussein (Mary), Karim (Connie), Ahmed (Taiseer), and Mohommed (Ferida); and his three sisters, Aisha (Osama), Magda (Medhat), Mona (Ahmed). He is preceded in death by his parents, Desouki and Wadida, and his brother, Mohie (Karima).

Hassan's memorial service will be held at Wilk's Funeral Home from 12:00-12:30pm with a visitation one hour prior on Monday, July 17th, 2017. All those who knew and loved Hassan are invited to attend. The service will be followed by a procession and burial at Mountainview Cemetery.

Hassan is loved immensely, and his family will miss him deeply. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family under the "Tribute Wall" tab above.
