Harvey V. Saunders, 91, passed away on August 30, 2021.
Our father was born in Richland Oregon on January 27, 1930.
He attended school until 8th grade. He later earned his High School GEU and went on further to take college courses.
Harvey got off to a ruff start. He was left handed and forced to use his right hand for everything. He later developed a stuttering habit which continued throughout his life time until later years.
He ran away from his home at the age of 14 riding the rails to the next rodeo.
He married at the age of 19, had my two wonderful brothers. Was Single at the age of 21. He had a difficult time raising these two until he meets our mother. He once said that he drove to the orphanage thinking somebody else could be better parents for my brothers. But I just couldn’t do it. They were my responsibility and I loved them.
Harvey Married Carma Saunders on 12/26/1955 in Nampa Idaho. Debbie was born in 1957. Our mother passed away in March of 2015.
One thing to mention he also was in Navy Reserves.
He worked for the railroad for 44 years in the signal shop most of his career. He harassed the other employee’s probably the entire time. Floyd Hebdon once told me. Don’t think for one second your father was a hard worker.
For every mile of track, you will find your father’s name on the transformer.
He was hard worker and taught his children not to lie and the importance of hard work by his example. He took the all of the young men in our ward to work on the farm in Arben Valley. He would take them out in the morning then go to work for the entire day. He would work at Lamb Weston on his vacation. He was Intolerant of lazy people.
Never heard a foul word come out of mouth; maybe a tall story. He lived in the past and in the future. I think that the present was hard for him. He still thought that coffee should be 20 cents. First time that my husband tried to tip the waitress at Denny’s my father tired to take the tip. He was always saying that “his ship was coming in”, or “this world is a changing”.
He bucked on out of here after a short illness. I would like to thank everyone who helped him the last few years. His wonderful neighbors the Muri’s, Merrill’s, Judy and don’t want to leave out the Scott’s. His wonderful friend Debbie McKee, who helped our parents later in life, who had to put up with a lot of nonsense in the meantime, or listening to his stories.
Thank you to his son Allen, wife Claudine & grandchildren. Beverly still watching out for him long after Bill died, My husband Jim who spent more nights (entire 24 hr) with him than my brothers. Lastly to the wonderful nurses who cared for him last three days of his life at the Monte Vista Care Center.
Dad you were very unique, eccentric and one of a kind.
I will always miss you. Look forward to seeing you gain.
