Harvey Dean Peck

d. August 3, 2018

Longtime Pocatello resident Harvey D. Peck died Friday August 3, 2018 peacefully at his home. Harvey was born August 30, 1926 in a house still standing on North 14 th street. He grew up as a kid during the depression and witnessed what "poor" really was. In 1944 he and a few other friends enlisted in the Navy. He always wished he had a camera to capture the moment of entering Tokyo Bay and seeing the United States and Japanese flagships with Mount Fujiyama in the background. He was incredibly proud of his World War II service time and was always excited to be able to share those experiences with others. After he was discharged he worked at the UPRR railroad, Naval Ordinance Plant (NOP) and Sperry Rand as a machinist. It was during this time that he met and married the love of his life, Beth (Jensen) Peck. They were together for 66 years until her passing on August 3, 2014, coincidentally his passing was the exact same day four years later. In 1960 Harvey and Beth decided to go in a new direction in life. They started H.D. Peck Trucking which continued for 20 years. He also worked for Bannock Paving for numerous years but ended up retiring at the UPRR as a machinist. To say Harvey enjoyed the outdoors and wildlife is an understatement. Gary and Rick and many others could re-tell lots of memorable hunting and fishing stories. When Harvey became passionate about something related to wildlife he would put all his effort into it. Whether it was installing goose nesting platforms on Marsh Creek or campaigning to getting starving deer and elk fed. Harvey and Beth had two boys. Richard Dean Peck (Sandy) currently living in Boulder City, Nevada and Gary Jon Peck (Pennie) currently living in Pocatello. Harvey has 4 grandchildren; Tracy, Jennifer, Alexia and Kyle; and 2 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, George and Margaret Peck; his sisters, Leona Griffith, Ione Corbett and Queena Rowley; and older brother, Glen Peck. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at 12 noon at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, ID with a viewing for one hour prior. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5 th Ave. Pocatello, Idaho 83204. Condolences may be made at www.colonial-funeralhome.com
